live recordings

Each show posted here is comprised of one or more zipped archives, each of which will expand into a folder of .wav files representing one CD; if available, there will also be a zip file containing PDF files of cover art. Download and unzip the files. Use Shorten to read the .md5 checksum files to verify that your download was error-free and to expand the .shn files. Feed the resulting .wav files to your CD burner. Finally, download, unzip and print the cover art. Then pass the $25 bootlegs by when you see them in the store or on ebay. Bootleggers rob musicians and fans.

NOTE: Please try everything you can think of to get these downloaded and burned before you write me to ask if I'll burn them for you. You will probably talk me into it, but it will take a really long time and you may wind up grumpy with me. Putting this music up here is how I balance my desire to turn people on to live stuff with my lack of time to run a CD factory all day. If you want to find real live music traders/collectors, check the links section... especially db.etree.org.

The Crystal Ballroom, Portland OR 12/9/99

The first time I ever recorded Built to Spill. Not the finest recording of all time -- the Crystal is far from acoustically perfect, and so am I -- but a fitting show for this grand opening special. Recorded with Core Sound binaural mics and a Sony TCD-D8 DAT recorder.
